Meli is only 1.5 years old and yet life has not been fair to him at all. He was abandoned as a child, and as if that weren't enough, he also had a serious car accident. Beaten and bleeding, he was left helpless in the middle of the road, without any of those who injured him caring. Fortunately, a passerby didn't pass him by. He immediately picked him up and took him to the vet, giving him a second chance at life. Meli made it, but he lost one of his legs. From a very young age, he became a three-legged dog. And yet, that doesn't stop him from anything—he is a normal, happy dog, full of energy, kindness and love. His face is always bright and full of smiles! Together with his friend, Velitsa, they make a wonderful duo. They love to play, run around freely, explore and enjoy nature. It is truly heartbreaking to see them spend their days in a cage. Meli often stands on the railing and looks at you expectantly, waiting for the moment to come for a walk with his beloved friend. On walks he is lively but completely manageable, and can easily become a wonderful companion. He lacks nothing—no character, no love, no vitality. Being a tripod should in no way be an obstacle. Meli deserves a full life, a home and people who will love him as he deserves.
Tripods are not “different” dogs. They are just dogs who happened to lose a leg—and they continue their lives normally, with the same enthusiasm, the same love, and the same appetite for play. They adapt incredibly quickly and move with ease, run, play, and enjoy life like everyone else. They don’t feel sorry for themselves, nor do they understand that they are “missing something.” For them, this is simply their way of being.
What they need is not pity—it is love, acceptance, and a chance to live in a home that will see them as they truly are: strong, happy, and full of life.
If you are thinking about adopting a three-legged friend, remember that you are not adopting a “lesser” dog. You are adopting a creature with immense soul strength, who will show you every day what it means to love life, no matter what it may bring.
Because in the end, it is not the legs that count… but the heart.
