Castrations and neutering campaigns are one of the most important parts of animal rescue work on Rhodes. They help reduce the number of unwanted births, prevent more animals from being abandoned or left to suffer, and support a more humane long-term solution for stray dogs and cats.
Prevention saves lives. Every animal that is neutered helps reduce future suffering, fewer abandoned puppies and kittens, and fewer animals struggling to survive on the streets.
Animal Rescue Rhodes supports regular castration campaigns for free-living dogs and cats, especially in areas where uncontrolled reproduction creates serious problems. Without consistent action, stray animal populations can grow quickly, leading to more hunger, illness, accidents, injuries and emergency rescue situations.
Neutering is not only a medical procedure. It is a responsible and compassionate way to protect animals and communities. By reducing uncontrolled breeding, we can help improve the lives of the animals already living on the island and prevent many future cases of neglect, abandonment and suffering.
Under the direction of Animal Rescue Rhodes and team leader George Kritikos, regular castration campaigns have been carried out since 2023, with the support of veterinarians, volunteers, the municipality and people who care deeply about animal welfare.
These campaigns require organisation, transport, veterinary care, medication, recovery support and ongoing follow-up. Every donation helps us continue this essential work and gives more animals the chance to live safer, healthier and more peaceful lives.
