Nemo has three legs… but that's just a detail. Nothing stops him. He is completely functional, full of energy and joy for life. He plays, walks and enjoys his walks like any other dog—without you even realizing the difference. He is incredibly kind and people-oriented. He loves people and cooperates perfectly on walks. His little "special" feature will not bother you at all. In the kennel, he lives harmoniously with the other dogs, without ever creating tension—in fact, he gets along great with everyone. Nemo has so much love to give… the only thing he lacks is a home. His story is bad because when he was a baby he had a car accident that resulted in him losing his leg and he has been living like this ever since. The person who hit him abandoned him and thus precious time was lost. But he was lucky because someone else helped him and took him to the doctor.
Three-legged dogs are not “different” dogs. They are just dogs that have lost a leg—and they continue their lives as normal, with the same enthusiasm, love, and appetite for play. They adapt incredibly quickly and move freely, run, play, and enjoy life just like everyone else. They don’t feel sorry for themselves, nor do they understand that they are “missing something.” For them, this is simply their way of being.
What they need is not pity—it is love, acceptance, and a chance to live in a home that will see them for who they really are: strong, happy, and full of life.
If you are considering adopting a three-legged dog, remember that you are not adopting a “lesser” dog. You are adopting a creature with enormous soul strength, who will show you every day what it means to love life, no matter what comes. Because in the end, it's not the legs that count... but the heart.
